London Garden Square House

London Garden Square House

A Grade II listed, stucco-fronted family house in a West London garden square.

We were commissioned by the owners to prepare designs for a full refurbishment, with planning and listed building consent for a striking two-storey rear extension, and conversion of a garage.

T: 020 8995 5645
E: jb@jonathanbrunskill.co.uk

The two-storey rear extension has a zinc roof, a balcony with glass balustrade, and powder coated patent glazing.
The top-lit dining room forms the upper part of the two-storey extension and opens into the drawing room and kitchen.
As there had been a separate basement flat with no access from the main house, we designed a contemporary oak staircase with glass balustrade.
We designed the family kitchen around a large island unit, keeping all the storage on one wall. The granite surfaces, stainless steel and slate-grey units are a good foil to the classic interior and the limestone tiled floor.
In the master bathroom, we designed a book-match marble screen for the end of the bath, to conceal the shower and WC

The two dormers have moulded cornices and lead cladding, and are offset to accommodate the balcony and staircase.
The book cases are built in under the roof pitch, and are lit by LED strips.
The large sitting room has French doors opening onto a rooftop balcony.
We were able to maximise space in the tiny bathroom installed under the front roof slope.

Victorian Print Works

Victorian Print Works

We were commissioned by the Client to convert a Victorian print works into residential and commercial units. We added a second floor to match the design of the lower floors and received planning permission for six flats, two commercial units and two one-bed houses on the end of the development.

E: jb@jonathanbrunskill.co.uk
A second floor was added to the building and the pilaster and red brick cross banding replicates the original detailing. The factory windows were replaced with double glazed powder coated steel windows to match the original.
The kitchen/living area is on the second floor, and benefits from a ceiling height of 3.5m to the apex of the roof.
The powder coated steel windows are double glazed and replicate the original steel factory windows. We designed louvre screens for the rear elevation, to satisfy a planning condition. Windows and screens both integrate into the industrial aesthetic of the old works.
The oak staircase has a toughened glass balustrade.

Georgian Town House

Georgian Town House

A Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in a Kensington square.

We prepared designs for complete refurbishment and a three-storey rear extension.

T: 020 8995 5645
E: jb@jonathanbrunskill.co.uk
Planning and listed building consent was obtained to demolish and re-build the extension (constructed over 40 years ago using inappropriate materials).
We designed the new extension to be re-built in brick with lime mortar, with detailing and sash windows appropriate to the period of the house.
The kitchen has an oak herringbone floor and the fenestration and cornices complement those elsewhere in the house. These details are juxtaposed by a minimalist kitchen design.
The kitchen features the owners' refurbished Aga, and the area is top lit by a light well fitted with structural glazing.
The architectural details of the house were carefully repaired, and reinstated where lost.
The plasterwork and joinery throughout were repaired, and working shutters reinstated. Bookcases were designed for the alcoves alongside the fireplace.
The rear garden was landscaped and the unstable garden wall was re-built using the original bricks.

The pool was unused for many years until we were commissioned to draw up designs to convert it into habitable accommodation.
